Platinum Salon // Hungry Hippie // D + F Studio = Mutha of Invention

This is MUTHA OF INVENTION's second collaboration project. :)

MUTHA OF INVENTION is a community curio designed to cultivate creative outlets for the people of Freeport, Illinois. With re-purposing in mind, these events and challenges are a way to work together to promote whole brain thinking, unconventional learning, as well as bring a creative culture to our little community. In my opinion, Maria Popover explains creativity perfectly:

"Creativity is a combinatorial force: it’s our ability to tap into our mental pool of resources — knowledge, insight, information, inspiration, and all the fragments populating our minds — that we’ve accumulated over the years just by being present and alive and awake to the world, and to combine them in extraordinary new ways. In order for us to truly create and contribute to the world, we have to be able to connect countless dots, to cross-pollinate ideas from a wealth of disciplines, to combine and recombine these pieces and build new ideas."

The below shoot was proudly taken for the talented stylists at Platinum Salon, in Freeport, IL. Kelly Knapp (Platinum Salon owner) wanted a new and different outlet for her salon stylists to do out-of -the-box hair and makeup applications. The stylists chose the volunteer models and collectively we decided on a theme that was a mixture of Viking meets Folklore with a little bit of Shaman medicine thrown in. Natalie from Hungry Hippie (a fantastic seamstress) and Amy Dreibelbis from D + F Studio fashioned costumes out of re-purposed and mostly natural materials. (Bone, Featha and Furrrr) Ben Fairweather nailed it on his Lighting and Photography.

Enjoy.
